Corrosion Companies Inc recently earned an Award for Composites Excellence (ACE) at Composites 2011 in Fort Lauderdale FL for its Composites Cargo Tanker with DuraShield Continuity Capability. The American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) presented its ACE award for Best of Show to Washougal WA-based Corrosion Companies for manufacturing a product with exceptional design, engineering, market significance, creativity, process innovation, and use of composite materials.
After the Department of Transportation approved a new fiberglass-reinforced polymer (FRP) cargo tanker designed for handling corrosive liquids, Corrosion Companies, along with Beall Corporation, began designing and building a filament-wound composite tank trailer that uses BALTEK SB. 100 balsa core, with the inner liner containing the first DuraShield carbon fiber continuity system. The DuraShield Smart Corrosion Barrier Monitoring System (SCBMS) allows users to monitor the corrosion of the liner continuously or by spot checks to confirm that the liner is intact and chemicals are not getting to the structural portion of the shell.
