Canadian tank trailer manufacturer Tremcar plans to build a new 125,000-sq.-ft. plant in Granby, Québec, according to a local report.
Construction is expected to commence in the spring of 2023.
Daniel Tremblay, president of Tremcar, told the Granby Express that the company planned to begin the project earlier, but issues finding and retaining workers caused them to rethink their approach to expansion, and focus on efficiency.
The new factory is expected to open in spring 2024, with a price tag in the $25-30 million range. The facility will employ approximately 150 people, according to the report, and feature “automation 4.0, artificial intelligence, [and] autonomous robots.” The goal, Tremblay said, is to cut the number of human hours per tank in half.
Upon completion, Tremcar plans to move its tank assembly operations from Saint-Césaire to Granby. The older facility will continue to manufacture trailer parts.
