The Wyoming State Senate recognized Jim Dixon and his family on the 50th business anniversary of Dixon Bros Inc, Newcastle WY from the floor of the Senate. The tank truck carrier and its founder were honored on February 22.
In his introduction, state Senator Michael Von Flatern, Gillette WY, explained to his fellow members of the Wyoming State Senate and others on the floor and in the gallery, that on February 22, 1960, Dixon Bros began doing business. The company was formed by Jim Dixon as a sole proprietorship with one employee, one truck and one customer — and that one customer remains a customer of the business 50 years later.
As the business grew, Jim brought his brother Jerry in as a full partner, and they incorporated the business on October 31, 1961. Jim's wife, Kathryn, helped in the office at the beginning of the business, while raising their three children.
Dixon Bros now operates 100 trucks and 300 trailers, hauling gasoline, diesel, propane, jet fuel, cement, asphalt, and chemicals. The company has Wyoming terminals in Cheyenne, Casper, Gillette, Sheridan and their headquarters in Newcastle. The carrier also has terminals in Billings and Great Falls MT, Rapid City SD, Sidney NE, Mandan and Fargo ND, and in Minnesota. The carrier employs 139 people, with 107 of those being Wyoming residents.
With the passing of Jerry in July, 2002, Jim purchased Jerry's share of the business, and today the business is run by Jim's family, which includes his three children, three grandchildren and a son in law. Members of the Dixon family introduced and recognized by the Senate included Chairman of the Board Jim Dixon and his wife, Kathryn; their daughter, Suzette Dixon Miller, secretary treasurer of the company; and their son Jimmy Dixon, who serves as CEO and vice-president and his wife, Sandra.
