The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has announced that it plans to issue a rule correction on HM-218H due to some technical issues. The rule correction will cover two key points:
• Allow all SA-612 NQT propane bobtail trucks that otherwise qualify to use the 10-year test cycle. Cargo tanks made of SA-202 and SA-455 steel will have to have documentation of the Charpy impact test.
• Regarding the dates in the table in Section 180.407(c), PHMSA advises that they will change the language to allow any qualifying LPG bobtail truck to use the 10-year cycle for pressure tests conducted after July 5, 2016.
