The new administration isn’t wasting any time in President Trump’s first 100 days. National Tank Truck Carriers plans to follow suit.
The trade association’s Political Action Committee approved a record-setting $204,000 in disbursements during the 2025 NTTC Executive Forum held Jan. 29-31 at the Trump National Doral in Miami after last year donating $130,000 of a then-record $175,000 spending plan to support industry causes.
“There are so many freshmen members of Congress who we need to spend time with to help educate; and then, with a Republican-dominated House, a Republican administration, and a small Republican margin in the Senate, we have two years, maybe four, to get some of our association’s major priorities pushed across,” Ryan Streblow, NTTC president and CEO, explained to Bulk Transporter.
NTTC’s PAC also raised nearly $50,000 during the three-day Forum, which assembled industry leaders for discussions on workforce development, regulatory challenges, legislative advocacy, and best practices in the tank truck sector at the same venue where House Republicans concluded their annual retreat a day earlier, giving NTTC members a golden opportunity to engage with congressional leaders.
“We had members of Congress popping in to attend meetings and visit with us one-on-one while we were on site,” Streblow said.
“It was great.”
A key topic of discussion was the establishment of an NTTC foundation that will support the association’s ongoing workforce and branding campaign. This foundation would fund marketing efforts and industry outreach to enhance recruitment and promote the tank truck industry as a career path. Attendees explored strategies to bolster industry image and address driver shortages through the current campaign.
Regulatory and legislative concerns also remained a focal point. The NTTC Energy Committee reaffirmed its opposition to the proposed hazardous fuel-hauling exemption, which would allow aviation fuel under 1,000 lb.s to be transported outside of existing hazardous materials regulations. NTTC leaders emphasized the safety risks and industry implications associated with this exemption.
A key milestone was the Advocacy Committee’s approval of NTTC’s 2025 Strategic Priorities, outlining key policy objectives and advocacy initiatives for the year ahead. These priorities will guide NTTC’s efforts in regulatory engagement, legislative outreach, and industry representation. One change worth celebrating was the removal of duplicative security credentialing from the Association’s Tier 1 priorities list after the transformative TSA Security Screening Modernization Act was signed into law in December.
Streblow said Washington now has until June 2027 to implement the long-pursued legislation, which he called NTTC’s biggest win since it helped block wetlines rulemaking by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. “That may seem like a long time, but in government years that’s lightning speed,” Streblow said.
Additionally, experts provided invaluable insights during a series of presentations on regulatory changes, insurance trends, market risks, and investment strategies, including:
- Seeing Red: Insurance Implications under Republican Control: Blaire Bartlett, VP of government and political affairs at The Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers, provided a deep dive into how shifts in Republican leadership may impact trucking coverage and employer benefits, offering expert analysis on evolving insurance landscapes.
- Insurance Market Update: Robert Dunn and Rob Kibbe of Aon’s transportation and logistics practice equipped attendees with strategies to navigate evolving market risks and insurance changes in the industry.
- Tank Truck Industry Top 10 Concerns: Rebecca Brewster, president and COO of the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), presented findings from ATRI’s latest survey, outlining the top challenges facing the tank truck sector and their potential impact on operations, regulations, and workforce dynamics.
- NTTC’s Endowment: Investment Management Results & Outlook: Tripp Shreves, lead institutional consultant at The Monument Group, shared insights into NTTC’s investment management strategy, providing analysis on market trends and long-term financial sustainability for the association.
“The Executive Forum set the stage for a strong 2025, reinforcing NTTC’s leadership in workforce development, regulatory engagement, and advocacy, while uniting industry professionals to drive the future of tank trucking,” the association concluded in a release.
