WABCO Holdings Inc, a global supplier of technologies that improve the safety, efficiency and connectivity of commercial vehicles, developed an Air Disc Brake Maintenance Care Tips Checklist to aid fleets, drivers and maintenance technicians in support of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Annual Brake Safety Week set for September 11-17.
“Brakes are among the most critical vehicle safety systems, and as a leading supplier of air disc brakes, WABCO proudly shares and supports CVSA and its Brake Safety Week initiative to improve brake safety by emphasizing the importance of properly installed and maintained brakes on commercial vehicles,” said Jon Morrison, WABCO president, Americas.
Brake Safety Week is a major annual CVSA outreach and enforcement campaign designed to improve commercial motor vehicle (CMV) brake safety throughout North America. It is part of the Operation Airbrake program sponsored by CVSA in partnership with the US Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
During the week-long campaign, commercial motor vehicle inspectors conduct brake system inspections on trucks and buses throughout North America. More than 3.4 million brakes have been inspected since the program’s inception in 1998.
“Out-of-adjustment brake concerns account for nearly half of all out-of-service roadside commercial vehicle inspection violations, according to CVSA’s 2015 International Roadcheck results,” said Morrison. “We hope that our Maintenance Care Tips Checklist will help serve as an industry guide to properly maintain air disc brakes and, thereby, improve vehicle safety.”
