Eco-Energy opens new transload terminal

Oct. 18, 2024
Distribution facility in Iowa with high-speed truck offloading and rail loading will provide Marathon Petroleum with renewable diesel feedstocks, including oils and fats.

Eco-Energy, a renewable energy supply chain company, recently commenced operations at its newly built renewable feedstock distribution facility in Newton, Iowa.

The facility will provide Marathon Petroleum Company the ability to aggregate renewable feedstocks (e.g., distillers corn oil, soybean oil, animal fats and used cooking oil) from throughout Iowa for outbound distribution to the rapidly growing renewable diesel space, the company reported.

The Newton site is equipped with 32 tank car offload spots, 1.2 million gallons of dedicated feedstock storage, and high-speed truck offloading and rail loading capability. The facility will be accessible by the Iowa Interstate Railroad, ensuring outbound product can be directly distributed by all North American Class I railroads.

“We are excited to have completed this renewable feedstock project and look forward to being an active member of the Newton community,” Eco-Energy COO Chadwick Conn said in a news release. “This project again highlights our team’s ability to collaborate, align incentives, and generate clear value-add throughout the supply chain.”
