Savage now operating NS Thoroughbred Bulk transload site in Edwardsville IL
Savage is expanding its liquid and dry bulk transloading footprint in the Midwest with the addition of a Norfolk Southern Thoroughbred Bulk Terminal (TBT) in Edwardsville IL, across the Mississippi River from St Louis MO. This—along with three more locations to be added in October--will bring to seven the number of TBT facilities operated by Savage.
The Edwardsville location covers 25 acres that are fully fenced and lighted for security. The facility is paved and has 40 railcar spots for transloading and a certified truck scale. It can accommodate a wider range of dry and liquid bulk materials.
“The terminal is open for business now, and we have two employees on site,” says Dan Price, Savage vice-president of business development. “We will add conveyors and other product handling equipment needed to meet customer needs. We have enough room to add warehousing and storage tanks.
“We believe this facility is in an ideal location. It is close to refineries and plants producing a wide range of chemical products.”
In total, Savage operates 41 transload sites—some it developed on its own as well as contract facilities—across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The company has more than 50 years experience in transloading, and it operates multiple locations that do in excess of 50 transloads daily.
In 2017, the Savage transload operation served 375 shippers and 3,330 consignees. More than 3.4 million tons of product were transloaded, accounting for 148,000 truckloads. A majority of the shipments were bulk loads.
