The two tank truck carriers received their trophies during the NTTC’s Annual Conference at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto Ontario, Canada. Heil Trailer International proudly sponsors the NTTC’s North American Safety Awards, which recognize the best tank truck industry safety programs in two different mileage divisions.

“Congratulations to Gemini and Hoffman,” said NTTC Chairman Lee Miller. “As a former Heil Award winner, I can tell you that it takes a real team effort to prioritize safety across your organization. Both companies should be proud.”

EnTrans International Chief Executive Officer Doug Chapple said: “Congratulations to both Gemini Motor Transport and G&D Trucking, Inc/Hoffman Transportation for bringing home the NTTC North American Safety Awards. The two Heil trophies embody a commitment to safety and what it means within our essential industry.”

Dean Kaplan, chairman of NTTC’s Contests Committee, added: “The tank truck industry prides itself on its well-earned reputation for safety. In a highly-competitive contest year, these two carriers earned the respect of their peers. They and their employees, each one who contributed to their safety success, should enjoy their hard-fought victory. With Heil’s support, we are pleased to recognize these two carriers whose efforts epitomize the NTTC’s mission to champion safety and success in our unique segment of trucking.”

The Mileage Divisions are named after the association’s first two and longest-serving presidents: Austin Sutherland (1945-1972) and his successor, Cliff Harvison (1972-2005). The mileage-based dividing line of the fleet size categories is 15 million miles.

G&D Trucking’s accident frequency of 0.090 accidents per million miles was the winning mark in the Sutherland Division.

“G&D Trucking/Hoffman Trans-portation is greatly honored and privileged to be named the recipient of the 2017 Sutherland Heil Trophy Safety Award,” said Kevin Hoffman, president of G&D Trucking Inc/ Hoffman Transportation LLC. “With so many safe and successful tank truck carriers in the industry, we are very humbled to have been selected.

“The recognition and accolades for this award are a reflection of the dedication and commitment to excellence by all of our people. It takes a team committed to safety excellence 24 hours a day. Our team includes drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, tank wash, and customer service personnel. Our drivers deserve the most recognition because they had the biggest part in winning the Heil Trophy. G&D/Hoffman has 151 professional drivers who truly are the elite of the elite.”

Gemini Motor Transport won its division with an accident frequency of 0.291 accidents per million miles.

“Delivering fuel is our primary job, but safety is our top priority,” said Brent Bergevin, vice-president of transportation for Gemini Motor Transport. “Hundreds of Germini’s professional drivers log millions of miles per year, and maintaining safety on the roadways is crucial to the integrity of our company. It takes all of us working together to maintain our excellent standard of safety, so we share this recognition with Gemini’s support staff at the corporate office and our drivers in the field.”

Gemini’s Bergevin and Jerry Curl, director of operations, Hoffman Transportation also were recognized as NTTC’s Safety Professionals of the Year at the Safety Awards banquet during the Annual meeting of NTTC’s Tank Truck Safety & Security Council on June 13 in Reno, Nevada.
