New from Cadec Global is its PowerVue, said to be the trucking industry's first Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)-based, hosted fleet management system.

Unlike traditional mobile communications systems that primarily emphasize messaging and location or data collection, “PowerVue adds a level of intelligence by combining the most advanced on-board computer system with a web-based, enterprise-class data management application,” said Frank Moreno, the company's vice president of marketing. “This enables PowerVue to translate vast amounts of fleet data collected from each vehicle into actionable information that can be leveraged throughout the supply chain.”

The SOA design and web-services integration framework provides unlimited application integration capability based on industry-standard XML technology, Moreno said. With PowerVue, fleet data can be easily tied to other company systems - for example, dispatch, routing, and mapping.

It can also generate role-based “dashboards” of relevant information for each stakeholder in the supply chain - from dispatcher, to fleet manager, to CEO, and can also create portals so a fleet's customers can view real-time information on when to expect their deliveries, including a map that tracks truck locations.

Furthermore, PowerVue helps ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, automating paper-based administrative processes such as driver logs and fuel tax reporting. The system also tracks driver safety data such as speed, route and location, and idle time.

There is a component to PowerVue that extends its functionality, based on specific industry/business requirements. Add-on applications include temperature tracking, door tracking, power take-off tracking, and trailer validation.

A key component of Cadec's new fleet management software is the PowerVue on-board computer. Designed with drivers in mind, it is a two-piece design - a base unit and a separate 7-inch color touch-screen as the driver interface.

PowerVue provides companies with the ability to optimize their fleet operations for maximum productivity, efficiency, and cost savings through real-time visibility into the performance of both vehicles, said Moreno.
