Colonial Pipeline Terminals and Kinder Morgan took home the International Liquid Terminals Association’s Platinum Safety Awards during ILTA’s 2023 International Operating Conference and Trade Show at the Marriott Marquis Houston.
Colonial, a subsidiary of Colonial Enterprises, won in the small-company category in only its third full year of terminal operations.
“Every day, in everything we do, it’s our goal to lead the industry and provide energy solutions to our customers in a safe, reliable, and responsible manner,” Zach Hauser, senior manager for terminal operations at Colonial who accepted the safety award, said in a news release. “Our highest priority is ensuring that operations are safe for employees, our contractor partners, our neighbors, and the environment.
“These awards are a testament to our safety culture and our ‘Zero is Possible’ approach to preventing incidents.”
The company launched its terminal business in Q4 2020 after purchasing three refined product terminals. It now operates facilities in Charlotte, North Carolina; Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Fredericksburg, Virginia; and recently celebrated the upcoming commission of a new terminal facility in Austell, Georgia, where it broke ground last year.
Kinder Morgan prevailed in the large-company division.
“On behalf of 2,700 employees across the U.S., thank you,” Kinder Morgan’s Dean McInnis told the audience. “We have been part of ILTA since 2009 and we’ve really looked at our safety performance. Covid played a significant part in pulling our teams closer together, as in the challenges lay the opportunities.
“ILTA has really helped over the last several years.”
