Heniff Transportation Systems is celebrating its 2022 Grand Award earned in National Tank Truck Carriers’ highest for-hire mileage class.
The award is based on the overall safety performance of tank truck carriers as determined by their DOT-reportable accident frequency per million miles. The Heniff family of companies produced a modest accident frequency rate of .249 per million miles for over 124 million miles travelled across North America in 2022, the company said.
“Safety and service sell in our industry,” said Bob Heniff, founder and CEO of Heniff Transportation. “Without safety, you’ll simply have no sales. This recognition is a tribute to the safety commitment of each Heniff team member—particularly our professional driver corps that ran all of those miles during the year.”

The NTTC’s Grand Award winners in each for-hire mileage class move on to compete for one of two 2022 North American safety championships. Winners will be revealed May 23 during NTTC’s 2023 Annual Conference and Exhibits in Boston, Massachusetts. This recognition marks the second time in three years that Heniff won its mileage class. It is in the running for a prestigious Heil Trophy in the Harvison Division for the industry’s largest for-hire carriers.
“Building an entrenched safety culture is no easy task for an enterprise of our size and scope,” said Leon Lupina, Heniff’s vice president of safety. “It starts with our staff of safety professionals, but it really requires complete buy-in from the board room to the driver room. We’re fortunate to have that culture here at Heniff, and that allows us to invest in our people and technology, which drives the success of our safety mission.”
