National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) now is accepting applications for the 2020 North American Safety Contest.
This award recognizes tank truck operations in North America with the best safety program and safety record for the year, and helps further NTTTC’s mission to encourage safety and success in the tank truck industry.
The North American Safety Contest is conducted in two stages. Stage 1 evaluates Recordable Accident Frequency based on recordable accidents per million miles. Stage 2 evaluates a wider range of criteria, including a company’s safety programs and culture. Award winners by mileage class in the first stage advance to the second stage, where they compete for NTTC’s North American Safety Championship in one of two divisions: Harvison for carriers with operations covering more than 15 million miles, and Sutherland for carriers at or less than 15 million miles.
The association said the application form must be completed and returned by Feb. 26 for consideration.
“We encourage all carrier and fleet members to apply,” NTTC said. “This contest allows us to gather a great deal of safety data about the state of the industry, which NTTC has leveraged in advocacy efforts to show lawmakers and regulators that we are one of the safest segments in the trucking industry.”
Trimac Transportation secured the top honor in the Harvison division in the 2019 North American Safety Contest, and G&D Trucking/Hoffman Transportation claimed the Heil Trophy in the Sutherland division. G&D/Hoffman’s win was its second in the last three years, and Trimac also earned the award in 2002 and 2007.
