Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)workers already in compliance in New England ports are now able to activate their cards after the TWIC computer system was down from a power outage, according to information from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Though power was quickly restored at the building impacted by the power loss, the part of the system that facilitates card activations was affected. At the same time, TWIC program enrollment and pre-enrollments are still available nationwide, and TSA is encouraging workers to enroll.
By the week of November 10, activation appointments will be available for workers at ports going into compliance November 28 and December 1. Click here for that list. Activations for all other ports will be available nationwide later in November.
As a result of rescheduling activations, the compliance date for workers located in the ports of Buffalo NY, Detroit MI, Lake Michigan, Sault Ste Marie MI and Duluth MN has been moved from October 31 to December 1, 2008. Click here for information about those ports.
TSA will provide updates with more information as it becomes available on the agency's Web site, as well as through its help desk, 866-DHS-TWIC. The TWIC Help Desk can now be contacted via email. Click here to send along an inquiry or issue. Other aids are listed below:
