The National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) has announced that 269 of its members have attained mandatory on-site verifications of their environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.

“This achievement, verified in each case by a third party, is not only a point of pride for the chemical distribution industry, but should also be good news for the communities in which they reside, and the suppliers and customers they serve,” says James L Kolstad, NACD president.

Verifications include thorough interviews on-site with applicable company personnel and an extensive review of company policies and procedures of management practices. NACD’s current designated third-party verifier, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), a Fortune 500 company, has 30 years experience as a leader in the environmental, health, and safety service industry.

The on-site verification process, started in 1999, is a condition of membership in NACD and, consequently, members who fail to submit to the requirements of independent third-party verification are terminated from membership. During the past three years, 15 companies have lost membership status, Kolstad explained.

The verification provides numerous benefits to member companies including reduced premiums on environmental and general liability insurance. In addition, many NACD member companies that successfully undergo verification receive full reimbursement of their verification costs.

The second three-year cycle of RDP Verification is scheduled to begin July 1, 2002. For an updated list of NACD members in good standing, go to www.nacd.com.
