As America’s Independence Day holiday nears, employees at the Volvo Trucks North America and Mack Trucks New River Valley Plant (NRV) recently continued their tradition of honoring the nation’s fallen and missing military heroes.

Volvo Trucks and Mack plant employees May 23 once again participated in the annual Rolling Thunder–Ride for Freedom rally in Washington DC. The rally commemorates America’s fallen and missing servicemen and servicewomen.

Employees and others from the area gathered once again at the United Auto Workers Local 2069 union hall in Dublin VA near NRV for a memorial ceremony. Afterward, many joined several hundred motorcycle riders in a convoy to the nation’s capital, accompanied by a specially decorated Volvo VN670.

As in past years, the Volvo VN featured custom murals honoring the sacrifices of military personnel. This year, the graphics highlighted the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford VA and the 65th anniversary of D-Day. The truck was developed by NRV in conjunction with UAW Local 2069’s Veterans Committee.

A Mack Pinnacle tractor, assembled at NRV, also took its place in the annual Rolling Thunder rally. The Pinnacle had a custom-designed graphic wrap highlighting the sacrifices made by servicemen and servicewomen. This marks the sixth year a Mack from NRV has been part of this observance.
