ITS impossible to place a dollar value on plant safety. But TTMA honored the trailer manufacturing industry's top facilities for keeping employees safe.

The annual TTMA plant safety awards are mere pieces of wood and metal, but they are of significant value to those whose policies and procedures prevented injuries.

TTMA presents two sets of awards each year — one for general trailer manufacturers and a separate set specifically for tank trailers. Because larger plants by nature have more exposure for potential injuries, awards are segmented by plant size: Category A for plants with more than 750,000 man-hours per year, Category B for plants with 350,000-750,000 man-hours, and Category C for plants with under 350,000 man-hours.

For trailer industry in general were Great Dane Trailers won Category A for its plant in Brazil, Indiana; Trail King Industries finished first in Category B; and Road Systems Inc won Category C.

Winners for tank trailer manufacturers were Walker Transport for its Category A plant in New Lisbon, Wisconsin; the Category B winner was Heil Trailer International's facility in Athens, Tennessee; and the Category C winner was Trans-Tech Industries of Southwest Harbor, Maine.

Vanguard National was the winner of TTMA's Most Improved Plant award. The van trailer manufacturer's plant is in Monon, Indiana.  ♦
