The average price of a gallon of diesel fuel nationwide increased for a fourth straight week, though its advance slowed from recent weeks with a 0.7 cent gain to $2.808 a gallon, according to US Department of Energy information.
This increase—on the heels of the previous week’s 9.6-cent jump and a 10.5-cent surge two weeks ago—put trucking’s main fuel 28 cents below the same week in 2008. Diesel’s price has now climbed 22 cents in the past month.
The least-expensive diesel is still along the Gulf Coast, where the average price inched up to $2.749. California, which has the most expensive diesel at $2.974, rose less than a penny from a week ago.
