Chevron's Delo brand of engine oils, lubricants, and coolants has introduced the latest member of its family, Delo Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze-Nitrite Free (Delo ELC-NF). The new extended life coolant (ELC) is recommended for use in on- and off-road heavy duty equipment, as well as stationary applications, requiring a nitrite-free OAT formulation, as mandated by engine manufactures like Detroit Diesel. In 2006, Detroit Diesel published DDC 93K217, which only allows the use of nitrite-free extended life coolants (OAT) in its engines. Delo ELC-NF helps ensure operators meet OEM warranty requirements.

Delo ELC-NF offers a service life of 600,000 miles, 12,000 hours, or six years with no chemical extender needed. Other benefits include corrosion protection and lower electrical conductivity; protection against pitting, corrosion, and erosion even on hard-to-protect metals like aluminum; superior heat transfer compared with silicate containing coolants; and improved water pump life due to its silicate-free formula. The product is 100% compatible with Delo ELC, which contains nitrite. Like other ELCs in the Delo line, the new product is dilution-tolerant up to 25 percent.

Delo ELC-NF is provided in North America in pails, drums, and bulk and will soon be offered in gallon jugs.

A new Texaco ELC, known as Texaco Extended Life Coolant/Antifreeze-Nitrite Free, has also been made available by Chevron. This product also meets the Detroit Diesel coolant specification 93K217 and offers identical performance characteristics to the new Delo product.
