Miller Transporters Inc, Jackson MS, just finished a campaign to upgrade skills for company drivers and independent contractors. The tank truck carrier used the “Coaching the Professional Driver 2” series from Coaching Systems LLC.

With the initial rollout of the Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program in late 2010, Miller Transporters wanted to help drivers refocus on the basics of being a professional driver. The course encouraged drivers and contractors to share experiences with one another, while discussing and analyzing real-life situations in a classroom environment. The course content included sessions on:

  • Truck inspections (pre-trip, in-transit, and post-trip inspections)
  • Cushion of Safety (speed and space management)
  • Expressways and Interstates
  • Two-Lane Roads
  • City and Urban Areas
  • Special Hazards and Backing

Brent Cobb, vice-president of safety and quality, says “Now that Miller Transporters has completed this training with everyone in the fleet, we are starting to see positive results in our internal incident tracking and our CSA scores. With the positive feedback we have received from everyone involved, Miller Transporters is beginning to look at the next level of training to offer our driving fleet. Anything we can do to make our driving fleet better and safer (for themselves and the general public) gets us one step closer to our ultimate goal of being the safest carrier on the roads.”
