The average price of all on-road diesel edged down last week, dropping almost two cents per gallon from the week before to $2.799, according to information from the Department of Energy (DOE).
Meanwhile, low sulfur diesel and ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) prices also fell slightly last week. Low sulfur diesel rang up at the pump at $2.732 per gallon, down two cents. ULSD was almost two cents less than the week before at $2.819 cents per gallon.
One reason prices declined is an increase in crude oil supply in recent weeks. Crude oil inputs to refineries have risen in the last few weeks, but are still shy of what some analysts are looking forward to seeing at some point this summer, according to DOE.
Last week's diesel price was nine cents less that it was for the same time last year, and almost 27 cents less than the high in August 2006 of $3.065 per gallon.
