Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems has announced that its current lineup of air disc brakes is capable of supporting North American truck operators to meet and exceed the newly released US federal government-mandated, shortened stopping-distance requirements.

“Our air disc brakes have a track record of more than 20 years,” said Jon Morrison, president, Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems, a joint venture between ArvinMeritor and WABCO Automotive Control Systems Inc.

If a truck operator opts for air disc brakes, Morrison said, Meritor WABCO offers air disc brakes as an all-wheel package, or front air disc brakes combined with rear drum brakes, and trailer air disc brakes.

The revised requirements will be supported by Meritor WABCO air disc brakes, designed to meet not only the vehicle performance requirements but also offer optimized stopping performance over competitive stopping systems, according to Paul Johnston, senior director-engineering, Meritor WABCO.
