CST Storage donates tank to bulk solids research facility in Salina KS

July 28, 2015

Equipment at the new Kansas State University Bulk Solids Innovation Center includes a 3,420-cu-ft welded carbon steel storage tank fabricated and donated by CST Storage. Located in the 600 block of North Front St in Salina KS, the university-level research facility is the only one of its kind in North America.

CST Industries officials said they are proud to have partnered with K-State by donating the 60-foot-by-10-foot welded carbon steel tank to the Center. The donated tank meets standard design criteria-including load and pressure capacity and weight and discharge specifications.

"This donation signifies CST's commitment to the storage industry and we are proud to be a supporter of this facility. It gives us great pleasure to give back to the community and the industry which we serve," said Tim Carpenter, president and chief executive officer of CST Industries Inc.

The June 24 open house was attended by numerous local officials, Kansas State University officials, and various industry companies that donated $2.5 million in equipment to make the center a reality. The Bulk Solids Innovation Center is a two-story 13,000-sq-ft building that is expected to contribute to education in the bulk solids field as well as generate sponsored research within the bulk solids field.

The center will be a valued resource to companies that design and utilize systems for bulk solids. The center will be used to study and gain understanding of how to handle these materials, and in turn, will enhance efficiency and productiveness in those businesses' operations.
