The Petroleum Marketers Association of America (PMAA) is asking its members to contact the association if they have concerns that ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD) is adversely affecting equipment.

According to PMAA's Weekly Review, the Petroleum Equipment Institute (PEI) has reported concerns. In some cases, ULSD is corroding metal components of the diesel storage system and causing filters and strainers to clog with rust. Other reports indicated rust inside the dispenser fittings before the strainer, and gasket and seal problems in pumps and meters.

The reports PEI is receiving do not appear to reference isolated instances, but instead identify a problem that ULSD marketers and users might have to deal with as long as they use fuel made to the ASTM D-975 specification, PMAA said.

PMAA is asking members who are seeing similar results or have other concerns to forward comments to Brandon Wright at [email protected].
