Transport Service Co (TSC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kenan Advantage Group, inaugurated the newest terminal in its system with an open house March 13. The four-acre facility is in the Bayport industrial park near Pasadena TX.

The fully paved and fenced facility includes a 3,400-square-foot maintenance shop and 2,990-sq.-ft. two-story building that contains offices and a driver training classroom.

“This new terminal sends the message that we are making a long-term commitment to the Houston area chemical transportation market,” said George Peirce, TSC vice president of sales and marketing. “We already had a solid presence in the Houston chemical market, but we want to make it clear that we are here to stay.

“We've rented space from Hoyer Global (USA) Inc. Terminal Services for many years. This new terminal is adjacent to Hoyer's wash facility, and they will continue to provide us with tank cleaning services. This is a great arrangement for us and our customers.”

Approximately 40 tractors will be based at the new terminal, and there is enough parking for up to 100 tank trailers. The facility and its staff are focused on chemical operations.

Two mechanics work in the two-bay maintenance shop. Their primary focus is on preventive maintenance and routine vehicle service, but they also will perform federally mandated tank trailer tests and inspections.

The driver training room is one of two in the TSC system that has a custom-built trailer simulator that instructors use for hands-on training in the operation of valves and other tank hardware. Newly hired drivers will be sent here (as well as TSC's Joliet IL terminal) for their initial orientation and training.
