Flint Hills Resources announced that three of its Wisconsin fuel terminals have been recognized for earning the Star status under the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration Voluntary Protection Program.
The Madison, Milwaukee, and Waupun terminals each earned the award, which is reserved for employers that provide exemplary occupational safety and health protection and serve as models for others. The achievement is based on criteria related to hazard prevention and control, safety and health training, management leadership, and employee involvement, among others.
“Our goal each and every day is to ensure our people return home from work in good health,” said Mark Gregory, executive vice-president of operations for Flint Hills Resources. “These sites and these teams are dedicated to continuous improvement, and they are raising the bar for the other terminals within the Flint Hills system and within our industry.”
None of the three terminals has had an injury or illness recorded in their three-year review period. Furthermore, OSHA found the plants appropriately control any potential hazards and diligently provide safety and health training for employees.
The terminals operate as hubs that take in fuels by way of the Flint Hills Resources Wisconsin pipeline. Third-party trucking companies pick up the fuel and deliver it to customers, which include wholesalers and local retailers.
OSHA determines the designation through site visits, interviews with employees and management personnel, annual evaluation, and documentation review.
