Schneider National is leveraging its 40-year history in the long-haul bulk business by expanding into the local and regional bulk hauling arenas. Within the past year, Schneider introduced shorter length-of-haul capabilities to shippers in four United States markets, with expansion into additional markets planned for later this year.

Schneider Bulk's local and regional service operates out of Schneider National operating centers/terminals in the South, Midwest, and eastern United States. In 2007, Schneider first began offering the service to the Houston, New Orleans, and Chicago markets. This past April, Schneider opened a new terminal in Pittsburgh and simultaneously launched the service in that market.

According to Schneider, response to the regional offering is faring well, prompting additional expansion. With a new terminal scheduled to open this summer in Keasbey NJ, shippers in that market can expect bulk local and regional service for their area before 2008 ends. Other markets across the United States will continue to be added over the next few years.

Schneider National offers three bulk solutions for shippers: longhaul, local/regional, and fuel hauling (which premiered in March 2008). Shippers interested in Schneider Bulk's local and regional offering can learn more by contacting Joe Morrissey, vice president of sales and revenue management, at (800) 558-6767, ext. 5054.
