January 15, 2008, is the deadline for comments on the Petroleum Equipment Institute’s(PEI) latest draft, Recommended Practices for Installation of Bulk Storage Plants.

According to PEI, the draft provides a basic reference that consolidates information concerning the proper construction of new petroleum bulk-storage systems. The intent of the project is to describe recommended practices for the construction of new petroleum bulk-storage systems that will maximize system efficiency, prevent surface and groundwater contamination, minimize environmental hazards, reduce safety hazards, and avoid practices that will needlessly increase installation costs. Information contained in the draft has been assembled from published and unpublished sources provided by equipment manufacturers, contractors, installers, bulk-plant facility owners, and regulators.

The draft was produced by PEI's Bulk Plant Installation Committee. A printed copy of the draft will be mailed to all PEI members in the United States and Canada, along with a comment form. However, anyone interested in reviewing the draft can download a copy and submit comments directly from PEI’s Web site at pei.org.
