The New England Fuel Institute (NEFI) is reminding petroleum distributors that it they sell, transport, or store diesel fuel, kerosene, and heating oil, they must be in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rules, including proper labeling.

NEFI warns that failure to comply may result in fines of up to $32,000 per day, per violation. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will be providing fuel compliance officers to assist the EPA in enforcing the various requirements under the new ultra low sulfur diesel regulations.

NEFI provides information on the issue, including, compliance kits, EPA-mandated sulfur content decals, deliver ticket stamps, discounted fuel testing, and on-call compliance assistance for NEFI members only. For more information, see the NEFI Web site at nefi.com.
