Tom Lynch, National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) vice-president/general counsel, discussed hazardous materials and other safety regulations affecting the tank truck industry at the American Society of Safety Engineers (SSE) Improving Fleet Safety symposium.
The symposium was designed to identify additional ways to prevent injuries and fatalities on the roads. Lynch, as a member of a panel with Bruce Bugg, Georgia Department of Public Safety, and Scott Mugno of FedEx, participated in the meeting in Atlanta GA earlier in September. Lynch briefed attendees on Federal Motor Carrier Administration safety regulations, discussed a number of best practices, and noted the increasing role technology plays in tank truck safety and security efforts. Lynch also pointed out key issues confronting the tank truck industry, such as driver and equipment shortages and rollover prevention.
NTTC, with the Department of Transportation (DOT), is co-sponsoring three Tank Truck Rollover Prevention Summits this fall. The meetings are scheduled November 14 in St Louis MO; November 28 in Baltimore MD; and December 4 in Oakland CA. The St Louis Summit will be held on the final day of the NTTC Cargo Tank Maintenance Seminar. There is no charge for attending the summits.
