Boasso America Corporation, a subsidiary of Quality Distribution Inc, recently expanded its network by opening its full-scale tank container service depot in Newark NJ. Further, Boasso America has plans to expand its Savannah GA facility by constructing a full-service tank container maintenance and repair building on its existing property.

The new facility at 80 Doremus Avenue in Newark, which is just outside the Port of New York/New Jersey, is open for business. Its proximity to the port facilities makes the site ideal for tank container operations and import/export transportation. Boasso will provide maintenance and repair, transportation, cleaning, heating, and storage of intermodal tank containers. The facility is the newest addition to Boasso's network of tank container depot operations. It is comprised of a maintenance and repair shop, cleaning facility, and office building.

The cleaning facility consists of a five-bay tank wash, state-of-the-art control room, and tank cleaning system. It will house two in-line boilers that will also power the 24-unit electronically controlled heating system that will provide low-pressure steam, electric, and hot water options.

The 36,000-square-foot maintenance and repair facility will house a tank welding area, tank repair stands, and a truck and chassis repair area. It has been designed specifically for the safety and efficiency of employees as they repair and maintain tank containers.

This $6 million investment is a clear example of how Boasso America is looking to take an even stronger position in its hold on the tank container services market. This facility is the first of many new facilities planned by Boasso over the next 36 months.

The Newark facility employs approximately 35 people, including mechanics, tank cleaners, drivers, and support staff. Completion of the facility is scheduled for spring 2009.
