Angelique T Jones, a driver for Atlantic Bulk Carrier Corp, has been named to the Women in Trucking Association’s 2016 Image Team. Jones joins 12 other women drivers and industry professionals on this year’s Image Team.
Jones called the association and the Image Team “amazing” and said she wants to use her position to help women and the industry overall. “I want to make some changes,” she said. “I want to change everything that is misunderstood about women in the trucking industry.”
Women in Trucking (WIT) works to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry and promote the accomplishment of women drivers. The Image Team represents the goals of the nonprofit association and works to bring awareness to the need for more women in the industry and the challenges they face in a male-dominated industry.
Jones, who has driven for Atlantic Bulk since 2003, said she would like women to know trucking offers true equality in pay and benefits for both men and women. She also would like women to know trucking welcomes more women. Jones said she hopes she can use her place on the Image Team to benefit all professional drivers.
“The Women in Trucking Association created an Image Team to highlight the careers of successful women employed in the trucking industry,” said Ellen Voie, president of WIT. “Angie Jones is truly a positive example of someone who exemplifies women who have found a place in a traditionally male environment and is willing to share her experience as a professional driver as an Image Team member.”
The Image Team will promote the industry and the association at events and trade shows throughout the year. Team members will also provide ride-along experiences to legislators and others to showcase the industry and women’s role in trucking. Team members are available to speak at public events and industry trade shows.
Applicants for the Image Team were selected from active members of WIT and had to answer questions about their safety record, volunteer service and community involvement. Team members this year work for industry giants such as JB Hunt, Werner, and Atlas Van Lines.
