Bruce H Schechinger, president of BHS Marketing LLC, Salt Lake City UT, was named the 2009 Distributor of the Year by the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD). The award was presented in honor of his many years of volunteer service to the group as well as his role in the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and NACD in summer 2009. Schechinger began serving on NACD committees in 1995 as an officer in the Southeast Region, where he rose to the position of president.

Dominic J Stull, president of Pacific Coast Chemicals Co, Berkeley CA, has been elected a director-at-large on the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) board of directors for a three-year term. Joel Hopper, president of Brenntag Mid-South Inc, Henderson KY, was also re-elected as a director-at-large for a second term.

The Trucking Industry Defense Association (TIDA) has named four new officers and three board members, effective October 30, 2009. The newly elected officers, who together form the Executive Committee, are: Lee Piovarcy, president, Martin, Tate, Morrow & Marston PC, Memphis TN; Tammy Warn, president-elect, Interstate Distributor Co, Tacoma WA; Joel Schechter, treasurer, Watson Bennett Colligan & Schechter LLP, Buffalo NY; and Joseph Pappalardo, general counsel, Gallagher Sharp, Cleveland OH. Newly elected board members are: Dana Hoffman, Young Moore & Henderson PA, Raleigh NC; Tony Sarchet, Carolina Casualty Insurance Co, Jacksonville FL; and John Spiros, Roehl Transport Inc, Marshfield WI.

Mark Jurman, vice-president of commercial sales at Silver Eagle Manufacturing Company, has been appointed to the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) board of governors. Jurman, who has led Silver Eagle's commercial sales division for the past two years, has a broad background in transportation sales as well as manufacturing. His appointment with NPTC begins in January.

Thomas James was unanimously chosen by the board of directors for the Truck Renting and Leasing Association (TRALA) as the new president and chief executive officer. He has served since July 2009 as TRALA's acting president and chief executive officer. He has spent his 24-year career in a range of public and private sector positions working on legislative and regulatory issues.
