A&R Logistics building more aggressive acquisition strategy

March 5, 2014

A&R Logistics announced March 3 that industry veteran Lanny Wilhelm has come on board as a business development consultant to help the company target acquisition opportunities. In his role, Wilhelm will assist A&R in executing its strategic inorganic growth plans.

Commenting on the development, Mark R Holden, A&R chief executive officer, says: “We are very excited to be working with Lanny on the next phase of our strategy--inorganic growth. We have spent the first year of ownership with A&R preparing for growth and focusing on safety and customer service. We are actively looking for opportunities to acquire companies in the dry or liquid bulk transportation space with annual revenues of $25 million to $100 million.”

Wilhelm has held various management positions in the trucking industry for approximately 40 years, including 26 years at Liquid Transport Corp, where he spent 18 years as president.  Liquid Transport Corp grew to be the 13th largest tank truck carrier under Wilhelm’s leadership.

Wilhelm has also played a leadership role in the tank truck industry, being named as the chairman of the Indiana Motor Truck Association in 1993 and was elected as chairman of the National Tank Truck Carriers Association in 2006. In addition, he was named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000.

Commenting on his new role, Wilhelm says: “I am thrilled with the opportunity to work alongside the people of A&R Logistics and collaborate with them on their growth strategies.  I believe the tank truck industry is in the very early stages of unprecedented growth, unlike anything I have seen in my 40 years in the industry. Much has changed in the industry with new regulations, new technologies and new ownership. A&R is well positioned to not only participate in the growth but to also be a leader in helping to reengineer supply chains for several of the largest chemical companies in the world that are experiencing significant growth in the United States.”
