Tank cleaning has become a bigger part of the Heniff Transportation Systems LLC operation. Three of the company’s five wash racks now offer commercial cleaning. The company’s largest terminal in Joliet IL also offers office space for lease to other fleets. Heniff Transportation offers its chemical shipper customers an end-to-end transportation solution with 24-hour terminal and central dispatch, ISO tank container transportation and storage, specialized compartmented trailers, and sophisticated fleet management technology.
Chemical tank cleaning is performed in five bays at the Joliet IL terminal, and total capacity for the wash rack is 140 trailers a day. The vat-style system has detergent and caustic available for chemical cleans. Hot water up to 200°F and steam are provided by two 100-horsepower Cleaver Brooks boilers.
Heniff Transportation’s truck of choice is Peterbilt, and the newest units are Model 579’s with Paccar MX-13 engines rated at 485 horsepower and governed at 65 miles per hour and Eaton Fuller 10-speed manual transmissions. The carrier runs a mix of daycab and sleeper units. All of the tractors are 2011 model year or newer.
Heniff Transportation uses Sellers 360 spinners for liquid chemical and foodgrade cleaning. Gamajet spinners are used for dry bulker washouts.
After purchasing the Joliet facility in 2014, Heniff Transportation converted two wash bays to foodgrade cleaning. The stainless steel vat-style wash system was designed in-house.
Heniff Transportation’s Alsip IL terminal is now an ISO tank container depot with enough space to handle up to 800 loaded and empty containers. Tank cleaning and maintenance are offered. Equipment includes two loaded lifts and 95 Hi-Lo lightweight chassis from Pratt Industries.
Filters remove contaminants from water used in the foodgrade cleaning bays.
Tractor-mounted product handling equipment includes a Roper pump.
Heniff Transportation’s largest maintenance shop in Joliet IL handles tank trailer repairs—with the exception of code work—and all tractor maintenance. During one recent trailer refurbishing project, mechanics reduced tare weight by 2,400 pounds.
A trailer-mounted air filter helps remove any contaminants from tractor compressor air used for product handling. An air filter also is on the tractor.
Tractors have Bendix air-disc brakes, Alcoa aluminum disc wheels, and Michelin X One widebase tires.
A major refurbishment and upgrade effort is underway for the wastewater treatment system at the Joliet wash rack.
TMT software is used to track and analyze productivity and performance in the Heniff Transportation maintenance shops and wash racks.
Betts discharge outlets are specified on the chemical tank trailers.
Trailer running gear includes Haldex air disc brakes, PSI tire inflation, Lite-Flex composite springs, and Michelin X One widebase tires.
Product hoses are carried in a rack mounted behind the tractor cab.
