Ways to ensure that tank cleaning facilities are efficient and safe were among the topics discussed by a panel at the National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) Tank Cleaning and Environmental Council Seminar March 30-31 in San Antonio TX.

Ed Matlage of Miller Transporters Inc, Greg Winters of Philip Services Corp, and Travis O'Banion of National Tank Services led the discussion at the meeting.

Matlage pointed out that the NTTC audit form is an excellent resource for reviewing a facility and a good reminder to check permits for expiration dates and to look at logs and cleaning slips.

O'Banion noted that the tank cleaning industry should promote the efforts it makes in environmental protection.

Winters emphasized that determining a tank's prior contents often is a challenge (particularly IBCs), but is important for proper applications and safety.

The council meeting will be covered in depth in the June issue of Bulk Transporter.
