Family-owned Calumet Tank and Equipment is celebrating its 25th year as a provider of tank, tote and ISO cleaning and heating services in southern Chicago IL. What began in 1988 as a small company is now a thriving business serving hundreds of transporters, shippers, and receivers of bulk liquids.
“I started the business with only two customers,” says Dale Fancher Jr, president at Calumet Tank. “Seeing the business grow and building a legacy for my children has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”
Although the company’s facilities have expanded over the years, Calumet Tank still resides on its original site. Many family members are still actively involved in the day-to-day operation of the company, including the owner’s son, Dale Fancher III, who serves as operations manager.
Through the years, Calumet developed and became known for its thorough “Calumet Clean” 10-point inspection service. The process guarantees each tank to be clean, dry, and odor free at the end of each cleaning. As clients began requiring special preparations for their tanks, Calumet expanded their services. Today they offer a variety of special preps including Kosher washes.
Environmental regulations also have affected the business over the past 25 years. Calumet has continually updated its water treatment processes to remain in compliance with ever-changing City of Chicago regulations and procedures. The tank wash operation recently installed a new, more environmentally friendly wastewater treatment system to remain compliant and increase their water treatment capacity.
