FMCSA wants comments on truck turbochargers

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is seeking comments by October 25 on a noise emission standard that addresses truck turbochargers, according to information published in the Federal Register September 25.
FMCSA said the Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) has petitioned the agency to amend the regulation to eliminate turbochargers from the list of equipment considered to be noise dissipative devices. TMA contends that virtually all trucks are now equipped with turbochargers and cannot be cited for failure to meet the visual exhaust system inspection requirements of FMCSA's safety regulations if they have no muffler.
