FMCSA to gather information on driver fatigue

Driver fatigue is the subject of a survey sponsored by the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA), according to information published in the

The Federal Register

May 31. The survey, to be conducted by the Motor Freight Carriers Association (MFCA) with a federal grant, will gather information on driver physical condition, amount of sleep, use of naps, fatigue coping strategies, hours on duty, hours driving, and nature of job. The survey will survey about 2,000 Teamsters drivers from companies that are members of MFCA that operate trucks on overnight runs. Some of the drivers will wear actigraphy watches to monitor sleep and wake times.
