Hurricane Ike shuts
2 TWIC offices

Oct 8, 2008 11:27 AM

Two Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) offices are closed in the Houston TX region as of October 1, 2008, as a result of Hurricane Ike, according to information from the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA).

In Houston, the office at 1717 Turning Basin is expected to be closed for at least two weeks. TSA will be conducting activations made at the Turning Basin office at the other office in Houston, 2100 Woodridge Drive. However, TSA will be performing all activations for people previously enrolled at the closed facility by appointment only. All new enrollments should be scheduled at the 2100 Woodridge Drive location until the other Houston office is back in operation.

The second office closed was in Galveston at 6000 Broadway. It will remain closed for the foreseeable future. TSA will be consolidating operations for the next one-to-two months into Texas City and is working to expand the site. An update will be announced when the agency is able to activate cards for people that enrolled in Galveston.

Hurricane Ike made landfall in the Houston/Galveston area September 12, bringing extreme wind and surge damage to Galveston and serious wind damage to Houston.

TWIC information can be obtained by calling 866-347-8942 or by clicking here for TWIC online.
