Safely delivering the liquid and dry bulk products that fuel the US economy is the core mission of the tank truck industry. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) is considering changes to its Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program that could negatively impact NTTC motor carriers’ daily operations.
Bulk Transporter and National Tank Truck Carriers have teamed up on a webinar addressing proposed CSA program changes that could have a negative impact on tank truck carriers. The presentation will show a carrier how to preview the proposed changes and see exactly how those proposed changes will affect CSA scores. Stay tuned for full details in coming days.
Two of the possible changes have big effects for our industry: making the HM BASIC public and splitting out tank truck fleets from non-tank truck fleets when calculating HM BASIC scores. Currently, tanker fleets tend to have much better HM BASIC scores than other fleets, meaning tank fleet scores are likely to rise. Carriers with higher scores are prioritized for increased roadside inspections.
NTTC will be submitting comments by the deadline of December 5, 2016. The Q&A session within this webinar with the participants will help NTTC to incorporate “real world” concerns of motor carriers into our public comments. The issues that will be discussed in this webinar are critical to every hazardous materials hauler in the industry.
