NTSB considers tank truck, bus fire similarities

A tank truck fire November 23 near Washington DC is being studied in conjunction with a September 23 bus fire near Wilmer TX, according to information from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
The driver of the tank truck noticed that a right rear tire was on fire, which is similar to the bus accident in which a fire began in the rear tandem axel.
The NTSB said information gathered from the tank truck accident may be useful in the NTSB's ongoing investigation of the bus fire.
The tank trailer, loaded with 8,7000 gallons of gasoline, became engulfed in flames after the driver realized the danger and stopped on the I-95 shoulder. He escaped without injury.
Twenty-three people were killed in the bus accident as they were being evacuated because of the threat of Hurricane Rita.
