Forms are now available online to apply for federal funding to be used for retrofitting diesel engine vehicles and equipment, as well as other clean diesel programs.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said the funding will be offered this year in addition to EPA’s FY 2009 National Diesel Emissions Reduction Program Appropriations.
The clean diesel campaign is divided into four programs: National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance, Clean Diesel Emerging Technologies Program, SmartWay Clean Diesel Finance, and State Clean Diesel Grant.
The assistance program will receive approximately $156 million and will be be awarded on a competitive basis to support diesel emission reduction programs. Another $20 million will go to the technologies program for use in development and commercialization of emerging technologies that reduce emissions from diesel engines. The SmartWay program is scheduled to receive approximately $30 million to support the creation of national, state, or local innovative clean diesel financing programs. States will receive approximately $88 million to support clean diesel grant and loan programs administered by them and the District of Columbia.
EPA said the funding will have an expedited competition schedule and applicants must comply with Recovery Act provisions.
Information about deadlines for applications and other information about the programs is available on the EPA Web site.
