Canada’s new e-Manifest program became mandatory on January 11 for all highway carriers transporting cargoes into Canada. Carriers not in compliance with eManifest requirements may be issued monetary penalties and will experience processing delays at the border.
With the implementation of eManifest, highway carriers transporting goods into Canada are required to transmit cargo and conveyance data electronically to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) prior to arrival. The cargo and conveyance data must be received and validated by the CBSA a minimum of one hour before the shipment arrives at the border.
To transmit advance cargo and conveyance data to the CBSA, highway carriers can choose to use an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) method, recommended for high-volume carriers, or the eManifest Portal, developed primarily for small- to medium-sized businesses.
