A specialist in liquid sweetener hauling, D F Hammonds Inc runs a lean operation based on Presidents Island in Memphis TN. The regional carrier operates 28 tractors and 31 foodgrade tank trailers. Facilities include a two wash rack and a small maintenanceD F Hammonds features a lean management team consisting of [from left] H L “Hank” Hammonds, Mardell Davis, and Denny F Hammonds.About 18 tank trailers a day are cleaned in the two-bay D F Hammonds wash rack in Memphis TN. Only sweeteners are cleaned, and the typical washout takes 35 to 45 minutes.
