Wash operators have plenty of working room at Prime Inc’s new Decatur Kleen foodgrade wash rack in Decatur IN. The facility was built specifically to handle edible oil shipments from the Bunge North America plant in Decatur. The two-bay wash rack opened in November 2011.

Wash operators have plenty of working room at Prime Inc’s new Decatur Kleen foodgrade wash rack in Decatur IN. The facility was built specifically to handle edible oil shipments from the Bunge North America plant in Decatur. The two-bay wash rack opened iMiranda McCorkel is the facility manager at Decatur Kleen. She started with Prime Inc six years ago when the carrier opened Savannah Kleen in Savannah GA and managed that operation prior to the move to Decatur Kleen. Michael Boyer, Agribusiness & Water TeOccupying slightly more than six acres, the new Decatur Kleen wash rack is an impressive foodgrade cleaning facility. Storage tanks on the east side hold incoming wastewater, biological residuals, and wastewater undergoing biological final treatment. ConsDecatur Kleen bought a new Model 660, The Peacock Company’s largest single-pass wash machine. The tank was rack also bought a Peacock Model 636 wash machine and two Model 7156 pressure washer units.
Workers direct tank wash operations automatically with Peacock programmable logic controllers.Spinners from Spraying Systems Inc were specified with electric motors for more precise control, as well as electric hoists for worker ergonomics and safety.Decatur Kleen workers use a forced-air dryer to dry product hoses.
Wastewater treatment is closely monitored in the laboratory at Decatur Kleen.Flocculants are added and pH is adjusted in agitation tanks during the physical treatment process.Solids and edible oil residues are removed during treatment in a dissolved air floatation unit.
A Sullair compressor meets the needs of the wash rack and maintenance operations.Two large Tuthill blowers are used to aerate the biological wastewater treatment tanks.
Decatur Kleen includes a maintenance bay for tractor and trailer service. The facility also has a driver lounge with showers and clothes washers and dryers for driver use. Prime Inc’s local dispatch also operates out of the location.
