Truck Driver Appreciation Week Approaches

Jul 17, 2001 12:00 PM, Modern Bulk Transporter staff

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is Aug 25–Sept 1, 2001. This week is an opportunity to show support and appreciation for the three million truck drivers nationwide who travel 200 billion miles and haul eight billion tons of freight, comprising more than 63% of the total domestic tonnage shipped.

On its Appreciation Week hotline at www.ntdaw.com, the American Trucking Associations has suggestions and sample materials for use to honor drivers. Suggestions for promoting the week include: sponsor doughnuts and coffee or a barbecue for truck drivers on-site or at places like truckstops; or provide commemorative items such as lapel pins or gift certificates for free meals. As an example from previous years, J C Penney facilities showed their appreciation with refreshments, snacks, a cookout, and banners and signs thanking the drivers.
