Tank Truck Industry Safety Improvement Noted

Apr 24, 2001 12:00 PM

For the year 2000, the cumulative DOT accident frequency for participants in the National Tank Truck Carriers Annual Safety Contest was 0.53 per million miles, according to Cliff Harvison, NTTC president. Seventy-eight tank truck carriers entered the contest.

The 0.53 frequency average represents an improvement over the ratio of 0.59 recorded for the carriers that participated in the 1999 safety contest. Harvison said it is important to note that these ratios were calculated just for companies that entered the safety contest, not for the tank truck industry as a whole.
