Pennsylvania House approves tank truck driver fingerprinting

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has passed legislation that would require all applicants with hazardous materials, tank carrier, and hazardous tank license designations to be fingerprinted and undergo a criminal background check, according to information from Rep Richard Geist (R-Altoona).

The legislation also would prohibit the state Department of Transportation from issuing or renewing non-resident commercial driver licenses (CDLs). The CDL legislation is part of a package of anti-terrorism legislation approved by the Pennsylvania House December 3.

"It’s imperative that we strengthen our domestic defenses against terrorism as soon as possible because the barbarians already have gotten past the gates," Geist said. "This package of legislation will help authorities root out potential terrorist threats and will help Pennsylvania respond to emergency situations should they occur."
