Pemex closes petroleum terminal in Chiapas

Pemex, Mexico’s government-owned oil company, has announced that it is closing its refined products storage and distribution terminal in Tapachula, Chiapas. After the terminal closes in March, refined petroleum products will be distributed to the Tapachula area from a new Pemex terminal at Puerto Madero.

The 20-year-old Tapachula terminal is being closed because population congestion around it presents safety concerns, according to Pemex officials. Plenty of open space was available when the terminal was built, but today it is surrounded by homes, schools, and office buildings.
